"Mike" (NR55Y) & "Ike" (NR56Y)

Summary

The Mike and Ike racers were built alongside each other in 1932 and raced until 1937 in air races around the United States. Famously, in 1935, Mike, piloted by Harold Neumann won the Greve Trophy while raacing at the National Air Races; that same year, Mr. Mulligan won both the Bendix and Thompson races. Aside from Ben Howard, the following race pilots flew these aircraft: Harold Neumann, Bill Ong, Joe Jacobsen, and Roy Minor. Mike and Ike still survive and are under private ownership; Ike and its original Menasco B6 engine are currently under restoration.
